Introducing Kameleoon’s Fastly starter kit

January 30, 2023

Customers expect timely, uninterrupted user experiences.

When the data powering these experiences is lagging, delivery slows down and the user experience suffers.

The modern solution for the challenge of quick data retrieval is Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), an ultra-distributed network of servers that physically brings data closer to end users.

Fastly, one of the world’s leading CDNs, makes it possible to execute code applications as close to your users as possible, at the edge of the network.

Now, thanks to Kameleoon’s Fastly starter kit, available for our Full Stack Experimentation solution, Kameleoon users can leverage Fastly Compute@edge.

Users can optimize web performance and provide end users with a speedy, no-lag customer experience by making it possible to compute experiment bucketing decisions at the edge.

Read on to learn more about our newest integration and how it can benefit you and your team.

What are the benefits of using Kameleoon at the edge?

Kameloon’s Fastly starter kit can streamline processes for developers and save your team ample time and resources.

Running server-side experiments and feature flags at the edge improves your customer experiences for two major reasons:

1. It reduces latency in user experiences
By computing and caching your experiments and feature flags data at the edge of the Fastly network, closer to where your users are browsing your websites and apps, the Kameleoon Fastly starter kit enables you to reduce latency and provide a much better experience.

2. It overrides caching constraints caused by CDNs
Users leveraging Fastly to cache pages cannot execute server-side tests, as experiences are served from Fastly, and not from their back-end servers.

Edge computing overcomes the static nature of CDNs and overrides this caching constraint by running code at the edge. Consequently, experiment bucketing decisions will also be made at the edge, making it possible to run server-side tests while still taking advantage of Fastly’s speed.

With Kameleoon and Fastly working together, experimenters can avoid disruptions to the user experience.

How does Kameleoon integrate with Fastly?

Kameleoon’s Fastly starter kit extends our Javascript SDK so users can leverage Fastly to run experiments and use feature flags at the edge.

All you’ll need to get started is a Fastly account, a Kameleoon account, and the Fastly CLI. From here, there are a few simple steps you need to follow to get set up. You can find complete instructions outlined in our technical documentation.

Fastly is the first of many CDN starter kits coming to Kameleoon. We’ll be introducing additional CDN starter kits in the future, so users will be able to leverage their preferred CDN to deliver exceptional customer experiences.

See here for a full list of CDNs coming to Kameleoon.
